Who's right here? Should she break the staff? Should she turn it over to Angela Dawson? What's Abby going to do now?

Please, Abby, break the bloody thing.

Break it...Military and Science types love to take things they nothing about and try to use it for themselves. Usually makes it worse.

It's still evidence, even if it's broken in half. Break in half, then hand it over. Both problems, solved.

Heck, she could even say, "What if Nightchantress has Jedi-like powers over the staff? I need to make sure she can't make use of it."

All good points... hm....

She probably better not break it. These officers are duly appointed representatives of the law, and, due process being one of the freedoms guaranteed by the constitution, such an act would be against her 'deal' with the spirit of freedom.

That's a point that could be argued either way IMHO. A bomb is still considered evidence after it has been disarmed, and that could apply here, both legally and Morally.

That being said, we know nothing about the staff except that's how NC focuses her powers. It may be not the staff itself, but an artifact that is part of the staff head that is important, in which case breaking it isn't going to solve anything. Further, as any AD&D player will tell you, it is not a good idea to break a Staff of the Magi. We have no idea what will happen if she does, and taking such a risk where innocent civilians might get hurt or killed would be BAD.

Any competent Game Master could come up with a half dozen insanely bad consequences for such an action, and My personal vote (which I know doesn't count) is to find out more about it before trying to destroy it.

LOL, great D&D analogy. You definitely don't want to break a Staff of the Magi without proper, erm, protection.

thank you! I had this thought in the back of my head that the staff might be a Nether Lord trapped in a soul jar, and breaking it would release him.

(Yes, I have game mastered as well)

EDIT: Please note that this is my own personal head-cannon, and may or may not have anything to do with what Steven-Vincent may or may not have planned for the staff. If I'm right, awesome. if not, there are a lot of other possibilities that would make perfect sense as well

Does Superman not bend or melt the bad guys' gun? Does the Hulk not smash the bad guys' toys? Does Batman not come crashing through the ceiling, wall, or floor, making an evidentiary mess of the crime scene?

Yes they do! Smash!

Yeah, sure, But Superman knows what a gun is, Batman knows windows are just barriers, and the Hulk's continued power doesn't depend on him NOT making a mistake. Breaking this supernatural artifact might well unleash the fury of a Djinn. Don't.

Djinn, schminn.

Okay, give me the staff. I'll take good care of it, I promise. ;)
