Finally we now see exactly why Dr. Synapse brought Abby to see Liberty Man. He said in issue 1 that he saw a 'power signature' in common between them. This page explains what he was seeing (hopefully).

The next question is... why doesn't Liberty Man have his powers anymore? Stay tuned for the answer... ;)

And don't forget Abraham Lincoln. That's how he was able to slay all those zombies!

I thought Lincoln was a robot? ;)

I thought President Lincoln was retconned to be a vampire hunter- I guess Asylum pictures have a lot to answer for...

I like the explanation, however this couldn't possibly happen to everyone performing a life-ending selfless act, or else every wounded/killed service man and woman would have instead turned into an ultimate warrior.

We would have tens of thousands of supers running (flying?) around, and probably wouldn't even need a military anymore. I know, I know, there's an explanation for that! :)

Speaking of flying, where did that come from for Abbey? Liberty Man didn't have that power and Abbey didn't "need it" to save the girl on the street. Neither was Abbey injured by the fire, so she didn't need to fly even to save herself.

I'm sure there's an explanation for this too. Right? ;)

Some of it is coming, although we are nearing the end of this scene (finally). I don't want to give away too much, but I will explain a little.

As to why doesn't everyone have it -- go back and review the questions Liberty Man asked her about what she thought of America, and the Founding Fathers, and all that. It's not just about selfless acts. It's about that, combined with intense and idealistic patriotism. There will be more on this in future stories, so I won't say any more.

Flying -- Abby's about to ask that, so stay tuned.

Finally I will point out... Liberty Man is doing a lot of inferring and guessing here. As you can see from Abby's example, the Spirit of 1776, if it is where her powers come from, does not explain itself to the recipient. Liberty Man didn't know why he got his powers at first either. He had them for a long time, and did research, and drew conclusions and those are what he is sharing. But he could be wrong about some, or all, of what he is saying.

Hopefully that doesn't give away too much. Not all will be 100% revealed here. Some is not going to come out for many issues.

Fair enough. You've suspended my disbelief well enough for the moment. :D

Great staging for your panels. Good job.

Scenes like this are much harder indoors than outside because of how the lighting works. It was tough to get the angles to look right while still keeping the camera 'inside' the room.

These connections with history are really cool!

Thanks. It's not quite the origin she had as a video game character... but it's close, and I tried to draw on some real history and then tweak it with my own take.
