Happy April Fool's day... though there is no fooling with this page. Abby still has her powers and now she's testing them.

This was a tough page to do mostly because there are no real 'national park' type sets with trails, fences, signposts, and the like. The one I used is OK, but this is one of those times when what I had in my head really did not come out quite the way I wanted. I fought a long time with this page -- it's one of the last ones I completed -- and finally had to go with 'it's good enough time to move on.' If I had the time to devote weeks to a single page I'd have done something different with the park set.

I know the feeling exactly. I would totally love to post daily AND get three weeks to make each episode. Maybe with a time turner... But they destroyed them all at the Ministry, didn't they?

Yep, sadly, no more time turners.

Your outdoor scenes are gorgeous! That's something I suck at so I'm super jelly. heheh

Thanks, DJ.

Outdoor is where Iray kills it. I think I did all of this with just the sun/sky mode... But HDRIs also do a nice job. Usually all you need is the one light and the render goes much faster (not 3DeLight fast but still way better than indoors with multiple lights).

Very nicely done with this page.. I Had similar issues with the ship views in luna star. I must say you did a fnatastic job with this.

I was able to use camera angles to hide some of the flaws in the set... It's meant to be just woods, not really something tended like a state park.

I'd have preferred a State Park entrance with signs, etc... but there is just nothing like that available that I could find, and I did not want to spend the time building it for a couple of panels.

Thanks. I guess it came out better than I thought. ;)

I usually prefer less text in comics but my gosh you're such a good writer it's worth it :D
Steven-Vincent 2nd Apr 2016, 7:42 PM edit delete reply
Thanks for the compliment.

I am going for a Bronze Age style aesthetic and there was a lot more text back then, so I purposely 'over-write' a lot of the panels. I know some of the pictures could speak for themselves but, they didn't do it that way in comics back in the Bronze Age.

...and her powers don't work any more so she gives up and goes home?
...and she wakes up and it was all a dream sequence?
You missed your opportunity - it will be 2022 before Friday falls on April 1st again! ;)

Well now... who says dream sequences or loss of powers can only happen on April Fool's? :)

Yeah, well don't be turning her into some weird electrical being like what happened to Superman. That was a really dumb and creepy series, and so was the one where Parasite "became" Lois. Icky, icky. Those storylines, along with Superman renouncing his US Citizenship is why I don't buy Superman comics anymore. I just don't care what the reasoning is, I call him a spineless contrivance at this point. Still haven't seen the latest film and I'm not sure I need to.

Iray has definitely made for better lighting in this entire issue. Well done on that, and your park scene isn't bad at all. It works for me.

There's no worry about LL renouncing her US citizenship that is for sure, lol. Wait till you see her red-white-and-blue costume (it's coming... just a few more pages). And she's definitely not going to get electricity powers. ;)

While I agree on Iray (and thanks for the compliment), I will say that it's not so much that Iray makes for better lighting, but that I find it easier and more intuitive to use, which makes me better at lighting scenes with it. (Most of the time.) Someone like DJ or Cent who is really good at lighting 3DeLight scenes can make them look just as good as Iray.
